We encourage everyone in the firm to get involved with our community and pro bono activities – from helping London school children with their reading to setting up a social enterprise to help homeless people, or house building in developing countries through the charity Habitat for Humanity. Our new trainees participate in a community team challenge – this might be redecorating a homeless drop-in centre or clearing a school garden. Many trainees also get involved in our Tower Hamlets legal advice centre, where we've been providing pro bono advice for 35 years.
We work with leading human rights, homelessness and children's charities. We might assist with work to ensure people are given a fair trial or with initiatives to tackle aspects of homelessness and help disadvantaged young people have their voices heard. We provide funding for future trainees to undertake internships with Reprieve in the US and some of our current trainees undertake secondments at Liberty and the Free Representation Unit.
We have twice been awarded the Business in the Community Big Tick for our Ready for Work programme and have secured successive Clean City Awards in London since 1999. The firm is CarbonNeutral® and we were the first firm to produce an independently audited CSR report.
