About

Laurie was born in Canada and educated in Canada and the UK.  He has worked principally out of our London office apart from five years when he was co-Managing Partner in Italy (during which time we opened our offices in Milan and Rome).

Laurie is also our country partner for Canada.  

Recent deals/Highlights

ConocoPhillips on: the demerger of its downstream operations, Phillips 66; its $3.44bn sale of a 7.6 per cent interest in LUKOIL, Russia's largest non-state oil producer, back to LUKOIL; and the disposal programme for its remaining 12.4 per cent interest in LUKOIL valued at approx $5.5bn;

Permira on the €1.5bn sale to Cargill of Provimi, a world leader in animal nutrition, and on Permira’s acquisition of a controlling stake in Valentino Fashion Group and the subsequent takeover offers for Valentino and Hugo Boss, the German fashion house controlled by Valentino;

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan on its acquisition of MAp’s interests in Brussels and Copenhagen airports in return for a sale by Teachers’ to MAp of its interests in Sydney airport and a balancing payment of approximately A$790m;

Grupo Ferrovial, Caisse de Depot du Quebec and GIC on their £16bn hostile takeover bid for BAA, which owned seven airports including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted and operated airports in the US, Italy and Hungary, and BAA on the subsequent sales of Gatwick airport and World Duty Free; and

KKR, BC Partners and Goldman Sachs on their bid for the Spanish telecoms group, Auna.

Career to date

Laurie has been a partner with us since 1991. Between 1997 and 2001 he was based in our Milan office and was co-managing partner of our Italian practice.
