About

As a holder of a Masters degree in theoretical and computational chemistry, Bertram is used to digging deep into complex subjects and it is a skill he regularly provides to his clients.

Before looking at the legal issues at hand he will strive to understand exactly the ultimate aims of the client. He has developed a strong understanding of certain key sectors - in particular, technology and telecommunications, an area for which Bertram is frequently acknowledged. Very often he is also called upon to give advice on media and data protection law as well as on outsourcing projects.

Bertram’s clients value this detailed and strong approach. He will often advise on critical items for their business, not just the legal aspects. This is especially the case in the telecoms business, where a sound technical understanding is pivotal; for example, knowing that robust business continuity planning is a vital part of the process when swapping core technology in a live telecom network.

Bertram’s earlier, non-legal experience as an expert advisor to the UN in Iraq adds another dimension to his work as well as his time spent on secondments to the London and Hong Kong offices of Freshfields and his engagements for clients in the Middle East and Asia. All of this gives Bertram a truly global perspective on issues faced by his clients.

Beside Europe, Middle East and Asia, one of Bertram’s areas of focus is South Africa. Clients interested in South Africa and South African companies investing abroad will benefit from his understanding of this market.
