Giles is a partner in the IP group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Giles specialises in IP, data privacy and cybersecurity, commercial and advertising law and is particularly active in the consumer, retail, technology, media, automotive and financial institutions sectors.

Much of Giles' practice is multi-jurisdictional. He has been based in London, Paris and New York, and regularly advises on:

  • IP- and data-heavy corporate and financing deals, including complex IP-related carve-outs and JVs
  • IP disputes and risk management, including brand protection strategies, copyright and design right infringement, IP-related lobbying, IP and antitrust issues, ambush marketing, customs detentions, anti-counterfeiting and parallel imports, cybersquatting and online infringements
  • IP structuring, including to benefit from tax and investment treaties 
  • global data privacy compliance programmes and data crises, including cybersecurity issues 
  • complex commercial and IP agreements, including licensing, co-existence, sponsorship, broadcasting, franchising, manufacturing, distribution, services and software contracts
  • e-commerce risks and regulatory compliance 
  • marketing and advertising laws, including multi-jurisdictional unfair competition challenges 

He has also worked in-house (on secondment) as trade mark counsel for a global consumer products brand.
