Our global finance practice covers the full range of international and domestic finance activities with particular emphasis on structured products, securitisation, securities, derivatives, banking, restructuring and insolvency, asset finance, project finance and financial services.

The practice is particularly well known for its expertise in the more complex and structured fields of finance - we do not undertake high volume, plain vanilla syndicated loan, securities or derivatives work. The work is international, high profile and intellectually demanding. We have around 300 lawyers in our offices around the world and our transactions typically cross borders. Our lawyers across the network work closely and collaboratively with each other as well as working with our other specialist groups such as tax, property and financial services.

We currently cover the following areas:

These practice areas provide a focus on particular market sectors, in terms of understanding the sector and identifying the targets for our business, but also in terms of developing expertise, know-how, standard forms and precedents for the benefit of our lawyers generally.

While some specialisation is inevitable in response to the demands of clients (and often the preference of the lawyers themselves), we encourage in our finance lawyers as broad an experience as possible. We believe this approach makes for better lawyers and we are in turn better able to advise clients imaginatively. In addition, the markets are dynamic, continuously moving and converging - for example, capital markets products are being used to fund project and asset finance transactions and to provide tax advantaged financing.
