We are planning to hold the following seminars at our offices at 65 Fleet Street, London (Bouverie/Tudor Street entrance - please click here for a map). These seminars are usually open to our clients only. However, if you are from a non-client organisation and would like to attend, please contact Michelle Scott. Some of our seminars may be open to journalists - please contact Gemma Abbott, PR Manager, if you would like to be invited to a particular event.

The style is informal and we aim to stimulate audience debate. The seminars qualify for CPD points. Materials are not usually sent out before the seminar although papers will be distributed on the day.

Refreshments will be served before all morning seminars, and a sandwich lunch before all lunchtime seminars. Refreshments will be served before and after all evening seminars. Registration will start 20 minutes before each seminar.

Every attempt will be made to ensure that the lectures take place on the date given. However, in the event of an unavoidable alteration to the programme, details of any changes will be circulated in advance.

  • Speakers: Christian Stuerwald of Allianz; and Paul Lomas, Simon Orton and Jonathan Isted of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
  • Overview: Class actions and third party funding of litigation are very topical issues which are developing rapidly and which have the potential to change the landscape of litigation in England and Wales, and in Europe as a whole.

    This seminar is intended to address some of these issues based upon our own experiences. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partners Paul Lomas, Simon Orton and Jonathan Isted will present on the way in which the market is evolving and try to anticipate future developments. We are delighted to be joined by an external speaker, Christian Stuerwald. Christian runs the litigation funding operation, in the UK, of Allianz, the leading insurer. Allianz has been funding litigation in Germany (principally) for over eight years. Last year they started to develop their business in the UK. Christian will explain how this practice has developed in Germany and what developments funders anticipate in the UK.
