John Blain is co-head of the firm's product risk and liability group. He specialises in product and regulatory work, particularly consumer and health litigation. This includes mass tort claims, consumer protection claims and product recalls. On the regulatory side, he has worked on various labelling, packaging and product description issues. John's recent work includes advising:
- on the potential liability arising from 'obesity' related issues;
- a multinational consumer group on many ongoing matters including: reviewing product liability risk; formulating global defence strategies; and defending cases in numerous countries, including Spain, Russia, Israel, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland, the Ukraine and Turkey; and
- Conoco Phillips, BG and Agip (UK) on the J-Block litigation against Enron and in the Hewett litigation.
He was recently seconded to the Independent Regulator of the NHS Foundation Trust to establish the regulatory framework for approving and monitoring Foundation Trust hospitals and establishing their compliance regimes.
