Middle East and Africa
Some recent examples of our work in the Middle East and Africa include acting for:
- MTN Yemen and MTN Dubai Limited in an ICSID arbitration against the Republic of Yemen, under the UAE-Yemen bilateral investment treaty and Yemen’s Investment Law; and Sabafon in a parallel UNCITRAL arbitration against Yemen pursuant to its Investment Law;
- Emaar, the largest real estate developer in the Middle East in ad hoc arbitration proceedings in Saudi Arabia in connection with a claim brought against it under a joint venture agreement for a real estate project in Saudi Arabia;
- an NOC in LCIA arbitration proceedings commenced by a contractor in connection with the construction of a refinery in the Middle East;
- an investment bank in an LCIA arbitration against a Bahraini/Saudi bank in connection with two letters of credit issued under a revolving credit facility;
- a prominent Dubai government-linked real estate developer in an arbitration under the DIAC rules in connection with the construction of a real estate development in Jebel Ali; and
- a Kuwait-based real estate developer in three separate DIAC arbitrations in connection with a prominent Dubai real estate development.
