'Mark Rawlinson is the star performer at Freshfields. Clients praise his ability to take the high level view and ensure the service is delivered in the way we want it delivered.'
Chambers UK 2011

Mark Rawlinson has recently been appointed managing partner for London, having previously run the corporate department. Mark specialises in mergers and acquisitions, particularly in competitive or contested situations. He is ranked in the exclusive 'star' category of M&A lawyers by Chambers. He was recently described by The Times as the 'highest profile lawyer of the past year' due to his roles for BP on its strategic response to the Gulf of Mexico situation and for the Red Knights in their attempts to buy Manchester United. He has recently won The Lawyer's 'Partner of the Year' award for 2011.

Other highlights include advising P&O on the competing bids by Dubai Ports World and Port of Singapore Authority in 2006, a transaction that earned his team the ‘M&A Team of the Year’ award from The Lawyer and Mark a commendation as ‘Deal Lawyer of the Year’ from Legal Week. The previous year he helped Manchester United prolong its defence against the Glazer family bid. And for 18 months, between November 2001 and April 2003, he advised P&O Princess Cruises on the competing bids by Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean, resulting in its combination with Carnival – the first example of companies listed in London and New York being put together under a dual listed company structure.

Mark was born in 1957 and educated at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He has been a partner for over 20 years and is relationship partner for a number of international companies (including AB InBev, BP, BG, Carnival Corporation, Compass, 3M, Vestas and Wolseley).
