Freshfields appoints new Asia regional managing partner

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer today announced the appointment of partner Simon Marchant to the role of Asia regional managing partner.

The appointment is designed to further strengthen and build on the firm's established presence in Asia which now counts over 270 lawyers in its offices in China (Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai); Japan (Tokyo) and Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh). In addition, Freshfields advises clients on transactions in India and is also regularly involved in various mandates in countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines and Indonesia.

Commenting on the appointment, Freshfields joint senior partner Guy Morton said: 'Simon's skills and energy will bring added impetus to our efforts in Asia and build on the fantastic achievements that our teams on the ground have made in recent years. Asia is a market of huge potential which will be at the centre of some of the most significant business activities and developments for years to come.'

Profile

Simon Marchant is a senior corporate partner who in recent years has headed the firm's energy and natural resources sector group and before that its telecoms, media and technology sector group. Simon has also been a member of the Firm's Partnership Council for the past three years. He specialises in corporate law, particularly cross border M&A, corporate advisory and equity raising.
