Dispute resolution

We have worked on some of the most high-profile commercial disputes in the world, many of which are at the forefront of cutting-edge legal issues, and have particular skills in large, complex cases. Through our extensive European network we are well placed and experienced in handling large multi-jurisdictional cases and the management of global issues. We also have an excellent track record of pioneering successful strategies for challenging 'bad' EU and industry regulation.

Some examples of our advice on chemical issues:

  • ABNA, a subsidiary of Associated British Foods, and a number of other compound feeding stuff manufacturers on a groundbreaking judicial review and interim relief challenge in the High Courts of England and Wales and Northern Ireland, the Court of Session and European Court of Justice to the validity of labelling requirements under EU directive 2002/2;
  • Altana on long standing litigation relating to the misappropriation of trade secrets in the area of paint additives;
  • A major multinational process licensor in two arbitrations over responsibility for the performance of a polyester plant in Indonesia;
  • A US chemicals company on issues surrounding the possible contamination of packaging materials with a carcinogenic substance;
  • A Sumitomo Group company on the successful defence of worker and local residents cancer claims in respect of alleged occupational/environmental exposures to agrochemicals;
  • Numerous clients on warranty claims concerning vessel paints, phosphate and other metal surface treatment products, steel treatment processes, motor vehicle components and other goods and services; and
  • A joint venture company, established to operate a petrochemical facility in the Middle East, in the mediation of a dispute with its engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
