Ports & shipping

When the global financial and economic crisis hit the markets in late autumn 2008, it became clear that the transportation and shipping industry would be heavily affected. After having enjoyed years of rapid growth, it suddenly had to face many unprecedented challenges.

We’ve been at the forefront of this industry in these interesting times, with a focus on complex and unique transactions.

We recently advised on the first investment of a private equity company into the shipping industry and we’ve advised on many complex financing arrangements, such as the restructuring of CSAV, Latin America’s largest shipping company, and Eimskip, one of Iceland’s leading transportation companies.

Our dedicated ports team offers clients extensive experience in advising on financially and politically complex port developments.

This has allowed us to support some of the most significant greenfield and brownfield developments in recent years. We recently advised on the IPO of Hutchison Port Holdings Trust, the largest ever IPO in South East Asia, and on the refinancing of the Association of British Ports.
