Life at Freshfields : Japan

/uploadedImages/Locations/Japan/Careers/life at Freshfields..jpg

We’ve been in Japan for more than 20 years. Our office in Tokyo opened in 1988 and our first Japanese lawyers joined us ten years later.

Today we have one of the most integrated and effective law teams in Tokyo and advise a large range of local and global clients.

Our Tokyo office is a fascinating place to work. Whether you join as a lawyer, a graduate or a business services professional, you’ll be joining the team that works on some of the biggest, most high profile deals around.

The job, of course, is not always easy. But work hard and you’ll reap some great rewards.

Our work

Antitrust, competition and trade

Antitrust, competition, regulatory and international trade (ACT) issues are critical to business in a global economy.

With more than 245 ACT lawyers in 15 countries, supported by our litigation practice, we are uniquely placed to respond to global developments.

We advise clients across all sectors, including financial institutions and governments, on the complete range of ACT issues.

They include merger control; licensing and distribution; intellectual property; restrictive practices; abuse of dominance; cartel investigations and damages claims; compliance; state aid; liberalisation; privatisation; public procurement; and trade.

Our people

More than 30 lawyers work in our Tokyo office. Two thirds are bengoshi – lawyers admitted in Japan – who bring in-depth local knowledge to our team.

The bengoshi and our global lawyers work side by side to deliver the very best for our clients. Teamwork is everything to us. To work at Freshfields, you’ll need to be able to fit in easily with both clients and colleagues.

We’re always keen to hear from talented applicants, no matter what their background or nationality. Diversity is essential for the complex, challenging work we do: it brings the fresh thinking and new ideas that place us ahead of the competition.
