Retail banks

In recent years, the banks sub-sector has been dominated by the financial crisis, the resulting market turbulence and the restructuring of the banking industry around the world.

Through the breadth and depth of our capabilities across the firm, we’ve been heavily involved in advising many of the world’s largest commercial and mortgage banks on some of the most challenging and high-profile transactions resulting from these events.

We’ve had central roles in advising on the various rescue and stabilisation packages in Germany, the UK and a number of other countries.

We advise banks not only on the business they do for their customers but also on their own operations, including:

  • undertaking capital raisings through various means, such as rights issues and placings, package assets for use in central liquidity support facilities and asset disposal
  • restructuring their businesses to prevent exposure to the sub-prime crisis
  • other balance-sheet management exercises, including raising wholesale funding
  • acquiring weaker players and assets through opportunistic acquisitions
  • on issues relating to custody and title to assets as a result of insolvency procedures.
  • the full range of contentious issues including handling large scale disputes, contentious regulatory issues, and investigations.
