Building your career at Freshfields

Explaining the culture of a firm is always difficult. But we think ours is special.

Like other international law firms, we have offices in many capital cities, and we have busy, sometimes long, working days. We serve demanding clients, with needs in every possible corner of the world. Big or small, commercial or institutional, what our clients all have in common is the sheer ambition and complexity of what they want to achieve. Put simply, they hire Freshfields when it matters most.

A career at Freshfields carries a few promises. You will not be bored. You will face problems you haven’t seen before. You’ll meet interesting and friendly people, and you’ll always work in teams. Teamwork calls for a genuine interest in other people and acceptances of differences. It also means an exceptional willingness to pitch in to get the job done.

The sections below describe (as far as they can in a few words!) what you might expect from life at Freshfields, and professional opportunities across the firm.

We’re one of the leading global law firms in Belgium, so a career with Freshfields is your chance to be your best.

It’s an exciting place. As an international and multilingual hub, the administrative centre of the European Union and home to the European Commission, Brussels is an important centre for political and business decision-making.

You’ll be part of one of the world’s best legal teams tackling complex, career-defining deals and disputes. Whether you join as a lawyer, graduate or business services professional, you’ll be exposed to a fascinating range of work across global industries and sectors.

The firm’s antitrust, competition, regulatory and international trade (ACT) practice is based in Brussels and is regarded as a world leader in the field.

We cover most of the firm’s other practice areas: corporate and mergers and acquisitions (M&A); capital markets; banking and finance; tax; dispute resolution, real estate, employment, pensions and benefits (EPB).

The work is challenging and the stakes are high. But your dedication will be valued and you’ll be rewarded with world-class opportunities.

Our work

Our work

The Brussels team advises on all aspects of EU law.

The firm’s antitrust, competition, regulatory and international trade (ACT) practice is based in Brussels and, with its broad-ranging EU and national experience, is regarded as a world leader in this field.

Additionally, the Brussels team is a leading corporate, finance and tax law practice in Belgium grown to meet the demands of our Belgian and international clients.

Most of our work covers difficult deals or problems and is largely international. Our position at the crossroads of international business and politics gives us a distinct advantage in the areas we cover.

Complex, global, world-class: no two days are alike with the work we undertake.

Our practice areas globally

The firm’s legal services are delivered across eight practice areas (see menu on the left):
  • Antitrust, competition and trade
  • Corporate
  • Dispute resolution
  • Employment, pension and benefits
  • Finance
  • Intellectual property and IT
  • Real estate

Industry groups

All our lawyers join one of eight cross-practice industry groups. They work in one practice area but become particularly knowledgeable in how the law affects a particular sector.

We’re a diverse group of people in the Brussels office. Our talented global team comprises over 20 nationalities largely communicating with clients in their own languages.
