"I took part in a summer vacation programme in Hong Kong and enjoyed every minute. We received business updates every day, and the firm really took care of me. I simply didn't find that support in the other three companies I did placements with.
Freshfields gives you real responsibilities. There's always something different to try and the firm gives you the opportunity to get involved. The seat rotation system exposes you to different kinds of work, and helps you find a place that suits your ambitions and skills. More importantly, moving round different practice groups in your training exposes you to a variety of disciplines that make you a good all-round lawyer.
We have many different clients. They're all high profile organisations, state-owned firms, and pioneering companies in China and Asia. Working on cutting-edge deals can be difficult, but knowing you're playing a major role in such well-known transactions is a good feeling.
I received my training contract during the placement. The process involved two rounds of interviews and assessments. It was a pretty intense experience, however, I found every partner very friendly and willing to make me feel welcome.
Working at Freshfields in China makes me feel part of something special. There's so much happening and every day is different. Clients are expecting more and we're busy making sure we do everything we can to keep them happy."
