"When I joined Freshfields, I felt very shy. But everyone’s so helpful and friendly. There’s an open-door policy where everyone feels free to ask questions or request help. I can also email our knowledge management team with queries at any time and know they will be willing to help me solve the problem.
It’s an inspiring environment. Everyone has come from an excellent academic background, so you would expect some competition. But that’s simply not the case. When working on projects, we’re heading in the same direction and focusing on the same goal.
One of my biggest concerns was that there wouldn’t be formal training. I didn’t have to worry. Every week, we have a seminar on specific topics and there’s always hands-on training with senior colleagues. I get all the support I could possibly need.
As an International Legal Consultant, I’m on a different development programme from trainees. I work on capital markets transactions and it gets really busy sometimes. It can be very challenging; however, I’m always proud to be part of the process. When I read or watch the news about a deal I’ve been involved in on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, I feel honoured.
Another reason I enjoy working here is Freshfields’ truly international flavour. There are many times I call our offices throughout the world for help with queries. Having access to this international experience is such a big benefit. It gives us an entirely new perspective on approaching solutions for our clients."
